Classic Everest Base Camp Trek-16 Days has been carefully planned with extra days in Kathmandu to adjust the local nepalese environment and weather prior to the trek. While at trek, we take you slow and steady with enough extra days of acclimatization to ensure full acclimatization in altitude, and safety trip. You will have an extra day acclimatization day in Namche at 3400m and another extra day acclimatization at Dingboche at 4410m for a full acclimatization process prior heading to Everest Base Camp at 5364m.

Comfort Accommodations at Trek & Meals
To ensure a possible comfort trek to Everest Base Camp, this 16 Days Classic Trek to Everest uses the best mountain lodges and guest houses available during trek days. Staying at Namche, Gorekshep & Lukla, we use a room with an attached bath/ hot shower with an electric blanket so it will be comfortable to sleep during these cold and high altitude nights.
While staying at Phakding, Dingboche & Pheriche, we use nice and comfortable lodges with an attached bathroom/ hot shower. Only at Tengboche & Lobuche, rooms are comparatively basic, but nice and clean.
We use all our meals from mountain lodges and guest houses we stay at every night for our dinner and breakfast, but lunch will be at himalayan restaurants or tea shops along the day walk time. We are careful choosing foods for our trekkers. We always make sure that we get fresh and hygienic foods at every place we stay during trek days. Staying in Lukla and Namche has meat ( Chicken) available but in general, we mostly have a great choice of Veg. foods during this trek.
Trek Route
Our Classic Everest Base Camp Trek- 16 days will have a 2 nights pleasant stay in Kathmandu deluxe hotel with a cultural tour of the valley prior to flying to Lukla. This flight is a breathtaking trans himalayan flight to a small mountain airstrip in Lukla. From Lukla, we trek a classical route to Namche through the interesting sherpa villages of Phakding, Manjo and Jorsale. Namche is the famous sherpa town, and the gateway to Mt. Everest. We will have two nights acclimatization stays in Namche prior heading to Tengboche- one of the biggest buddhist monasteries in Everest Region. Onward, we trek to Dingboche, a nice himalayan valley where we stay 2 nights for complete acclimatization before heading to Lobuche & Gorekshep valley. We will visit Everest Base Camp in the afternoon, which is a great khumbu glacier section surrounded by snow capped peaks, and it is an incredible glacier place to visit.
Kalapathar (5545m) offers a close-up and incredible view of Mt. Everest ( 8848 m) and 360 degree views of all the Khumbu region's prominent peaks. Now onward, we retrace back to Lukla in 3 days time, then fly back to Kathmandu
How Tough Is Everest Base Camp Trek?
Everest Base Camp Trek is an altitude walk in the Himalayas, thus physically demanding, and a fairly challenging trek in Nepal. If you are not an active outdoor person or have not trained & prepared enough, this trek could be tougher than you expected. You must do proper training and preparation to be well prepared prior to this adventure trekking in Everest Base Camp.
Typical trek days will be 5-7 hours uphill and downhill every day in rough mixed mountain terrain, rocky trail and steep steps so you should be prepared for every day walk. You will be gaining a minimum of 300-500 m altitude every day on your ascent at trek days (Except acclimatization day in Namche & Dingboche).
Everest Base Camp Trek is not a technical walk. It does not even involve mountaineering walks. Even if you do not have any altitude trek experience previously, you should still be able to plan this trek. But obviously, previous trek experience is highly recommended. Active trekkers at excellent health and physically in shape could trek to Everest Base Camp without any hesitation.
Training & Preparation
It is important that you train to be physically fit prior to Everest Base Camp Trek with us. Aerobic training is necessary. Go for hikes in your surroundings. Hike with a small day pack for a minimum of 3-4 hours a day, twice a week is recommended. In addition, go swimming, cycling, running which will build up your cardiovascular endurance. You should train yourself for 3 months minimum before your trek to Everest Base Camp starts with us.
During a Trek
Walk slow and steady every day. Have a positive attitude all the time. Stay hydrated. Drink a minimum of 3-4 little water every day. Mental strength and determination is equally important for safe and pleasant trekking in Everest Base Camp. Be prepared for basic trek conditions, unpredictable weather change, and altitude sickness as we ascend. Bring proper trek gear, trek with good hiking boots and proper clothes always.

Lukla Flight:
Flight to Lukla is weather dependent, so delays or even a cancellation happens sometimes even in the Spring and Autumn months. If flights are canceled, you have to stay an extra night in Kathmandu and we shall reschedule your flight to Lukla the next morning, and reschedule your entire trek program accordingly. In the event of flight cancellation, trekkers could also have the option of chartered helicopter flight to Lukla with paying an extra cost of US$- 350- US$- 500 depending on group size. Helicopters could fly in little visibility so even if planes could not fly to Lukla, helicopters usually could fly.
So, we always recommend trekkers to come with one or two spare days at the end of the trek days, and these extra days could be used as a back up day for trek rescheduling in the event of flight cancellation. If Lukla flight has no cancellation, you could use your spare days for cultural and historical sightseeing and tours in Kathmandu Valley, or extension trip to Pokhara or Chitwan as per your interest, and Classic Vacations Nepal will assist you accordingly to your request.

Morning breakfast at the hotel. You will then be on our guided tour to Kathmandu Valley. Kathmandu Valley has great cultural highlights and historical sites. On our guided tour, we will visit a few of them. We tour Pashupatinath Temple ( Biggest & holiest Hindu Temple in Kathmandu), situated at the river bank of Bagmati River, where you will also witness the hindu ritual of cremation of a dead body. Next, we visit Buddhanath Stupa (One of the biggest Buddhist Stupa in Kathmandu). Further, we will visit Syambhunath Stupa also known as Monkey Temple which is situated at the small top of the hill offering 360 degree views of Kathmandu valley. We now return back to the hotel. Now, you have your free time for the day. You may buy last minute shopping for the trek in the city.

This morning, we have a flight to Lukla. Morning breakfast at the hotel, then your guide transfers to Kathmandu domestic airport for Lukla flight. This sector flight is an amazing & exciting trans himalayan flight by small Twin-Otter and Dornier Planes.
At Lukla, you will meet your assistant trek crew then we start your trek. Today's walk is relatively short, pleasant, passing through local sherpa villages, green natural valleys along the Dudh Koshi River to Phakding. This afternoon, we have full acclimatization in Phakding.

Walking from Phakding is pleasant at Dudh Koshi River valley. We will have a nice nature walk to Monjo via Bengkar, and will be crossing several interesting suspension bridges in the valley. From Manjo, we enter Sagarmatha National Park, then continue the scenic walk to Jorsale. With a cross over to Hilary suspension bridge, trek to Namche is a long climb up a hill. This walk will eventually gain altitude as you reach Namche. Namche is a local town and trade center of this region. Namche has shops, restaurants, pubs, pool houses, cafes, bakery, local markets, lodges, banks and ATMs etc.

We have reached Namche in two days from Kathmandu so it is important to have acclimatization day in Namche for safe ascent in altitude. Thus this day is planned as acclimatization day. This morning after breakfast, we will hike to Everest View Hotel (3880m) as part of an acclimatization walk, which takes about 1 hour and 30 minute. Everest View Hotel has the best panoramic views of Mt. Everest and other Khumbu mountain views and imja valley. Here, you will have the most scenic moments.
Afternoon, we will visit the Namche museum, the local market in Namche, Sagarmatha National Park office etc. Saturday is the local hatt market in Namche so if you are here on Saturday, you will have the opportunity to witness the local shopping festival and enjoyment. Leisure in the evening.

From Namche Bazaar, we have an easy mountain ridge walk for an hour, enjoying the great views of mountains throughout the way and then descend a pleasant nature walk all the way down hill to the river valley at Phugi Tenga. From Phugi Tenga, we have a long uphill walk passing through rhododendron, and pine forest to the hilltop to Tengboche.
Tengboche has the biggest monastery in Khumbu, known as Tengboche Monastery. It is an amazing himalayan valley with great landscape views of the Imja valley and massive Ama Dablam towering the valley. Tengboche Monastery has an every day prayer ceremony so you will be able to witness the ceremony, and chant with local monks at the monastery. Mani Rimdu festival is one of the biggest Tibetan cultural festivals celebrated here during the full moon in October every year.

This morning, the trail descended through rhododendron forest to Deboche, then walking along the side of Imja River. It is a great nature walk. Thereafter, we cross a bridge, then walk uphill towards Pangboche (3985m). Pangboche is a nice and typical Sherpa village with some of the oldest Tibetan Monasteries.
From Pangboche, vegetation changes as we ascend, and a dry and deserted hill walk starts. Gradual uphill walk through some local tea huts in the Imja Valley finally reaches to Dingboche. This part of the walk is incredible with spectacular mountain views.

Dingboche is our second acclimatization day on this trek. We will have a free morning breakfast, then take an acclimatized walk to Chhukung Valley (4750m) or Nagarjun Hill (4800m). Dingboche & Chhukung Valleys are an incredible himalayan valley at the lap of Imja River. This valley is the gateway to Island Peak Climb (6189m), Imja Lake, Amphu Laptsa cross toward Makalu Barun National Park. Himalayan views at Dingboche are just spectacular.
Today, morning is active with acclimatization walks but afternoon/evening will be relaxing and resting in Dingboche Valley for complete acclimatization process.

Walking from Dingboche to Lobuche is uphill through dry and deserted himalayan valleys. This section trail is a rough, stones and rocky trail walk. Till reaching Thukla will be gradual from Dingboche, but from there, trail steep uphill to the top of Lobuche Hill where we will witness the memorial chotens being built to remember the lost lives of sherpas and climbers at expedition in Mt. Everest, Lhotse and other himalayan peaks of Khumbu region. Another 30-40 min gradual uphill walk across the glacier and rugged trail brings us to Lobuche.

From Lobuche, the trail first gradually ascends for a short time, then constant uphill through a rock trail following the Khumbu Glacier valley to Gorekshep which takes about 2 hours. At Gorekshep, we will check in to our lodge, drop our bags, and take a quick lunch prior to heading to Everest Base Camp.
With a day pack, snacks and drinking water on it, we now start walking on a gravel, rugged stone trail up and down deep into the Khumbu Glacier to Everest Base Camp. This walk is wonderful approaching the valley with 360 degree views of the great Everest Base Camp & Khumbu Glacier Valley views and Himalayas. It takes about two hours to reach Everest Base Camp.
Everest Base Camp is an incredible place to be. It is at Khumbu Glacier. Everest Base Camp has an incredible glacier section and stones, rocks, prayer flags and big rock with signs of Everest Base Camp & height. Everest Base Camp is the first base camp for mountain climbers with all the logistic support set up for the complete climb to Mt. Everest, and other high mountain climbing of this region.
Congratulations, you have made it to this great place. You will take some time to explore this incredible place, great photography and videography. You may approach yourself more into the Khumbu IceFall. Late afternoon, we will be back to Gorekshep.

By early morning, we will start hiking to Kalapathar for sunrise views of Mt. Everest & all Khumbu region Himalayas. This is the highest place you will reach on this trek without using mountaineering gear.
Mt. Everest View from the Kalapathar is very close- up and incredibly towering us. Mt. Pumari, Nuptse, and Lhotse views are equally spectacular. You have 360 degree views of Everest region mountains. You will also have an incredible landscape view of Everest Base Camp, Khumbu Glacier from Kalapathar. Kalapathar is the best place for mountain photography and videography.
Enjoying a great time here, we return back to Gorekshep and breakfast. This afternoon, we will retrace back to Lobuche, then to Dhukla. Now, the trail descends to Pheriche village following a great walk in Himalayan valley.

Today is a leisurely morning, breakfast in Pheriche. From Pheriche, trails mostly descend in the deserted himalayan valley to Pangboche, then to Debuche along with forest walk and nature. Short uphill to Tengboche, then a long downhill walk to Phugethanga through pine and rhododendron forest. Cross the bridge at Imja Khola, then stone steps uphill to Kyanjuma, and a pleasant walk along the mountainside all the way to Namche Bazaar.

Leisurely morning in Namche. Breakfast and time to stroll around the Namche Market, witness Sherpa villages and cultural surroundings or simply relax in the morning.
Afternoon, we will trek a long hill down to Hilary suspension bridge (We have walked this route on our day 04 on our itinerary), then followed by a long suspension bridge crossing at River, we will have a gentle walk to Manjo. Manjo is a nice little Sherpa village with incredible natural surroundings. Evening, witness Sherpa lifestyle, visit monasteries etc.

Today, we will have a pleasant walk to Lukla. We will be walking in river valleys, landscapes and natural hills throughout to reach Lukla.
Lukla is a nice mountain town with all different shops, pubs, drinks and bars, pool table, coffee shops, bakery etc. You will have leisure time this afternoon. Tonight will be your last celebration night staying in the mountains before flying back to Kathmandu the next morning. Time to celebrate the success of Everest Base Camp Trek with fellow trekkers and your trekking team in Lukla.

Originally from Khumjung- 3, Everest Region, Mr. Pema Chhosang Sherpa is our key climbing guide for major peaks in Everest region, including Island Peak, Lobuche Peak, Kyajo- Ri Peaks and other 7000er climbing in the region.
Bal Bahadur Tamang was born in Solukhumbu. After completing his eighth grade, he left his village and went to Jiri to work as a porter. His first experience as a porter was to carry a big sack of rice from Jiri to Lukla. He has carried as heavy as 60 kg of load on his back as a porter.
Obviously, trekkers of any age, shapes and sizes could plan this trek. Sagarmatha National Park, an authorized body to issue park permits to trek to Everest Base Camp, has data that says trekkers aged from 12 years up to 70 years have trekked to Everest Base Camp over the years. The older you are, the more training you need to plan this trek.
Everest Base Camp is a trek in high himalayan valley, and it involves walking uphill and downhill a lot and it is usually a long hike at altitude every day. Everest Base Camp is not a technical trek at all. It does not require any technical expertise walking or mountaineering skills to plan this trek.
Everest Base Camp trail is well structured, well paved, good and comfortable trail. Sagarmatha National Park is soley responsible for maintaining the trail, and local peoples also contribute to maintain the trail good and in condition for safety of trekkers.
You will be staying in Mt. lodges and guest houses throughout Everest Base Camp trek days. Lodges staying in Lukla, Namche have nice rooms with an attached bath, hot shower and comfort beds. Other places will have nice, neat and clean accommodation for overnight stay.
