This trek is off the beaten trek in Everest. This trek takes you to the remote and hidden valleys, which are less traveled so less crowds at trail. This trek is a complete alpine circuit of the rugged Khumbu region mountains.
Is Island Peak a technical climb? I am a beginner, am I qualified to climb Island Peak?
This Island Peak climb is physically challenging but not too technical. Due to the glacier melting from global warming, Island Peak climb has become more technical over the time. On summit day, there are crevasses along the route so it requires the use of a ladder. In addition, you have to use fixed ropes on steep snow slopes and ice headwall during this climb. Trekkers who are energetic, are in excellent health condition and physically in shape with little or no experience in Himalayan climbing are still qualified to plan this adventure climbing with us. However, we strongly recommend trekkers to gain the basic experience of rope work and mountaineering skill training to plan this climb in the Himalayas. In addition, you are walking in different environments and mountain conditions during your trek and climb in the Himalayas so keeping your mindset positive is extremely important for safety and success.

Today is a big day! We will start our hike from base camp at about 1:30 am. Our kitchen team will prepare the early breakfast by then. You will get ready with your day pack where you must have enough water and snacks or chocolate etc. for the day. Hiking from base camp to high camp takes about two hours on rugged trail, rocky sections. From the high camp, we walk about one hour further up to the altitude of about 5800m at rock gully, known as crampons point, from where we will have to use climbing boots and crampons as we will be walking ahead to the glacier and ice section. We will now reach the vertical wall, which is a tough climb but our guide will fix ropes to climb this section to reach the ridge-line. Final summit will be at ridge- line toward summit glacier climb at steep snow slope.
During this climb, we will be crossing a few seasonal crevasses using a ladder, and as the climb is completely in glacier and ice fields, vertical wall, and ridge line, thus requiring the use of the ropes for climb safety, the summit to Island Peak will be much more demanding.
This complete summit climb takes about 8-10 hours, and an early start in the morning will give us enough time for the summit, and return back. Mountain weather will be nice and clear in the morning. Once the sun heats the snow, it will start melting, and from sun heat, weather starts to change, so the strong wind starts blowing which makes our summit climb much difficult so we always climb in the early morning. We shall plan to reach the top of island peak at 9:00 am. Mornings usually have great weather conditions in the mountains. You will have incredible views of Lhotse, Nuptse, Makalu, Baruntse, Ama Dablam and other Himalayan panoramas of Khumbu region mountains from the Island Peak summit.
After spending some time at the summit for photography and videography, we then prepare to descend following the same route all the way down to crampon point, where our kitchen staff will bring some soup and light food for you. Further descend to base camp, then to Chhukung valley for overnight stay.

The Everest 2 High Passes Trek & Island Peak Climb is one of the most exhilarating and challenging adventures in the Everest region of Nepal, combining high-altitude trekking with technical mountaineering. This route typically includes crossing Kongma La Pass (5,535m) and Cho La Pass (5,420m), two of the highest and most scenic passes in the Himalayas, before ascending Island Peak (Imja Tse, 6,189m), a popular trekking peak known for its panoramic views and moderate climbing difficulty. The journey offers trekkers a unique combination of cultural immersion in Sherpa villages, remote glacial valleys, and high-altitude alpine terrain. Due to its difficulty and altitude, this trek and climb demand excellent physical conditioning, proper acclimatization, and well-prepared logistics.
For this adventure, a comprehensive gear list is essential. Your gear should include technical climbing equipment such as a harness, crampons, ice axe, helmet, carabiners, and a climbing rope (often provided by guides). Clothing layers are crucial: a moisture-wicking base layer, insulating mid-layers (fleece or down jacket), and a waterproof and windproof outer shell. For trekking, you'll need sturdy hiking boots, trekking poles, gloves, warm hat, and sunglasses with UV protection. A four-season sleeping bag, headlamp, backpack (40–50L), daypack, and personal medical kit are also essential. High-calorie snacks, a hydration system or water bottles, sunscreen, and lip balm with SPF are must-haves. Due to the expedition’s remote nature, include spare batteries, toiletries, and lightweight, fast-drying clothing. Make sure all gear is tested and broken in before your departure.

Obviously, trekkers of any age, shapes and sizes could plan this adventure trek. Sagarmatha National Park, an authorized body to issue park permits to trek to Everest Base Camp, has data that says trekkers aged from 12 years up to 70 years have trekked to Everest Base Camp over the years. The older you are, the more training you need to plan this trek. Also, we have some travelers of age above 70s who have safe and successfully climbed Island Peak with us so prepare yourself and train prior coming to this adventure, and you will be fine.
Our guides will carry a first aid kit, and Diamox for high altitude sickness. We will also take other general medicine for headache, body pain, Diarrhea, and other altitude related emergencies medicines.
For altitude, there is no need to take a preventative medication before your trek starts. As you ascend, if you start the symptoms of high altitude sickness, you could then take Diamox for treatment ( 250 mg every 6 hours) till it heals.
However, if you want to be very preventive as you ascend at altitude, you could start taking a preventive dose of Diamox, and if, so, you are recommended to take a maximum of 250 mg a day- at evening after dinner which helps you for sound sleep (Or take 125 mg in the morning, after breakfast and 125 mg at night, after dinner). If you start taking a Diamox, continue taking it till you descend back.
In addition, you should be bringing your personal medications you regularly use for your existing medical illness.
