Overview

Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek  is one of the most scenic treks in Annapurna region. This is an ideal trek for the peoples who wish to do a short trek in Nepal in a comfortable trail and enjoy the finest mountain sceneries within.

This introductory short trekking in Annapurna unfolds dramatic panoramic profiles of some of the beautiful and highest mountains in Annapurna region. Along with the views of Annapurna & Dhaulagiri range, you would also be delighted to see the mixture of locals, walking through the picturesque local hills, farming lands and terrace. You would also have an opportunity to walk through the dense sub-tropical forest of rhododendron and Sal forest- great introduction of flora and fauna of this region.

Image 2

Highlight of this trek is a majestic view from Poon Hill. Poon Hill offers the panoramic views of Dhaulagiri (8167m), Annapurna I (8091m), Machhapuchhre (6993m), Manaslu (8157m) and other numerous mountains along the world's deepest Kali Gandaki gorge.

This trek is pleasant but has lots of uphill and downhill walking every day. Average walking is 4 to 6 hours a day, and the highest point is only 3200m at Poon Hill. Every other day the walk will be between 2000m- 3000m in altitude so this trek has no risk of high altitude sickness.

Those who are traveling with children or the elderly trekkers can also enjoy this trekking adventure. Every spring this trek offers a grand spectacle of blooming rhododendron flowers so it is the best trek time recommended.

Important Trip Note

Although the Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek is considered one of the easier and more accessible treks in Nepal, preparation is still key. Be ready for several days of continuous uphill and downhill hiking—especially the long staircase sections around Ulleri and Tadapani. Start training with light cardio and stair climbing a few weeks before your trek. To enjoy the famed sunrise view from Poon Hill (3,210m), be prepared for an early morning start in cold conditions—dress in warm layers and carry a headlamp. Lastly, this trek passes through villages where cultural respect is essential: dress modestly, ask before taking photos of people, and support local lodges and communities.

Dhal Bhat Tarkari

During the Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek, meals are served at teahouses and lodges along the route, offering a variety of warm and filling options suitable for trekkers. Breakfast typically includes porridge, eggs, pancakes, toast, Tibetan bread, and hot drinks like tea and coffee. Lunch and dinner menus commonly feature dal bhat (rice, lentils, and vegetables), noodles, fried rice, soups, momos (dumplings), and pasta. While vegetarian meals are most common and recommended for freshness and digestion, some lodges also serve meat, especially in lower villages. Snacks such as biscuits, energy bars, and popcorn are available, and it’s a good idea to bring your own high-energy snacks as well. Staying hydrated is important, and tea, lemon ginger drinks, and boiled water (often available for purchase) are widely provided throughout the trek.

Accommodation

Hotel Room

Accommodations on this trek are in teahouses—basic mountain lodges run by local families that provide both meals and lodging. Rooms are simple, typically twin-sharing, with clean beds, mattresses, and blankets, although a personal sleeping bag adds comfort and warmth. Most lodges have shared bathroom facilities with squat or western-style toilets, and hot showers are usually available for a small fee. In lower-altitude villages, some teahouses may offer private rooms with attached bathrooms. Electricity is available for charging devices (sometimes for a small charge), and while Wi-Fi is accessible in many villages, it may be slow or limited. The teahouses along the Poon Hill route are known for their cozy atmosphere, warm dining areas with wood stoves, and friendly hospitality, making them a comfortable base after each day of trekking.
