The Mustang Overland Tour is a captivating journey that takes you through Upper Mustang, one of the most remote and culturally preserved regions of Nepal. This off-road adventure combines rugged terrain, ancient Tibetan culture, and stunning landscapes. The tour covers Jomsom, Lo Manthang (the capital of Upper Mustang), and surrounding areas, offering spectacular views of Dhaulagiri, Annapurna, and Machapuchare. As the region lies in the rain-shadow of the Himalayas, it enjoys a unique desert-like climate, which means dry, clear skies and a dramatic landscape of barren hills, cliffs, and caves.
Be prepared for high-altitude conditions and unpredictable weather. The Mustang Overland Tour takes you through some of the most remote and high-altitude areas of Nepal, including the Upper Mustang region, which lies in the rain-shadow of the Himalayas.
While the journey is incredible, the terrain can be rugged, and the weather can change rapidly—expect cold mornings, hot afternoons, and chilly nights. Ensure you carry warm clothing, sunscreen (for sun exposure at altitude), and adequate gear for both wet and dry conditions. Also, because the region is in the rain shadow, it remains dry for most of the year, but still, be ready for occasional dust storms and harsh winds.

However, at higher altitude areas, electricity is limited as they are from small hydro projects so it is always best to come with spare batteries for your camera or power bank.
Electricity Voltages and Power Sockets use in Nepal:
We use types C, D and M power sockets and plugs and 230V electricity standard voltage in Nepal. Plug C types requires two round pins and Plug D types and M types requires three round pins. So, we recommend you to come with an adapter which can be used within these power sockets. You can easily buy an adopter in Kathmandu as well.
Book with Local Agency:
Locals know it all, they are well updated to the current situation, trekking routes, and they are far more reasonable than international agencies. Local agencies are far more flexible when it comes to dates, rates and customization than international agencies.
Know About Altitude Sickness:
Before any trip, you should consult with your health professional for the relevant immunizations and information regarding medication and altitude. The key in our experience is to allow plenty of time for your body to adjust to the altitude – you can't rush the mountains – and we abide by the climber's maxim – "climb high and sleep low”. We especially encourage those travelers from areas of low sea level to always have a little more time up their sleeve so they can allow for extra rest days if needed. Trekking in Nepal means you are walking above 2500 meters, resulting in a high chance of suffering from altitude sickness no matter how fit you are. The altitude sickness mostly occurs above 2400m (8000 feet) and most people can ascend to this altitude without difficulty. However, it is hard to tell who will be affected by Altitude sickness because everyone reacts to altitude differently.
Symptoms of Altitude Sickness, Headache, Nausea and dizziness, Shortness of breath, Loss of appetite, Fatigue, Difficulty in sleeping, Lack of body coordination. The most effective way to cure altitude sickness is to stay alert for its symptoms, and if you or any member of your trekking group suffers from it descend to lower elevations as quickly as possible.
Treatment: Diamox (Acetazolamide):
Diamox (Acetazolamide) allows you to breathe faster so that you metabolize more oxygen, thereby minimizing the symptoms caused by poor oxygenation. Contact your physician for a prescription. Since Diamox is a sulfonamide drug, people who are allergic to sulfa drugs should not take Diamox. Diamox has also been known to cause severe allergic reactions to people with no previous history of Diamox or sulfa allergies.
Know About Nepal:
Before heading to Nepal, learn and get to know about Nepal. Do little homework about the culture and lifestyle, a bit of geography and history. It will surely come in handy and even help you overcome some of the cultural shock you (tourist/travelers) may face in Nepal. Also learn some basic local phrases to get you through Nepal.
A simple Hi/ Namaste or Thank You with a smile will definitely break the cultural barrier with the locals and help you get through loads of difficulties.
Drink Fluids/ Water:
You tend to get dehydrated quickly when trekking in high altitude. So, drink plenty of fluids and water during your treks in Nepal to keep yourself hydrated.
Note: Fluid does not mean beer or any other alcoholic beverages.
Listen to your Guide:
Our every trip will be accompanied by the most experienced local guides and support team. Please trust your guides. Our team ensures that every aspect of your trip runs smoothly once you depart for your desired tour, trekking and/or climbing destination. Tell your problems to your guide, don’t hide them. Your trekking guide should be aware of these risks and will always be looking out for your safety and wellbeing.

Yes, this tour is a private tour. Individual entry to Upper Mustang is restricted by the Nepal Government so we need a minimum of two people to organize this tour.
Upper mustang openly borders Tibet, China so due to this, Nepal Government treats this border as an important border for China, thus we need special permit from Nepal Government, Department of Immigration to tour to this region. In addition to this, we also need an ACAP permit to tour over this region.
You will be staying at mountain lodges and guest houses during this tour in the upper mustang region. Guest houses will have proper beds, neat and clean and comfortable rooms.
Drive from Kathmandu to Bandipur, Pokhara then to Kusma is along the nepalese highway so it is black-pitched road and comfortable drive, but traffic delays are expected sometimes. Road from Kusma to Beni, then to Tatopani to Late, Kalopani is an off and rough road, a lot of winding roads in deep valleys and the road section is very narrow. Drive from Kalopani to Jomsom is a nice black- pitched road. From Jomsom to Kagbeni is off road, but from there to Muktinath is a good black-pitcked road. The complete road from Kagbeni to Lo-manthang and return is an off and rough road in deserted valley, uphill and downhill.
We will be using 4X4 jeep drive so the off road drive will be safe and comfortable.
